- Horror movie settings are usually dark rural locations or abandoned places where no one goes. Most places are deserted and isolated. This creates mystery and suspicion throughout the film.
- The main props in horror movies are weapons such as knives, axes, and chainsaws that bring about a slow and painful death. The heavier the gun, the better the reaction to the movie. Because horror movies are supposed to be pretty scary.
- Horror movies usually take place in the dark of night. Shadows bring fear to the audience. Shadows are created by low-key lighting to add the effect of uncertainty. Fear of the unknown terrifies the audience.
- Most people (mainly victims) in horror movies dress casually, but a lot of effort is put into their costumes to give clues to their role and personality in the film.
