1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?
Conventions are the typical things audience expect to see in a media product. Before making the movie I did a detailed research to to find out my generic conventions. My product challenges conventions because conventions are the generally accepted ways of doing something. But, with my product we switched it up and made it different. We did this by adding in people who were communicating with the audience. This represents social groups due to it having two or more people interacting with one another. The actors in my product were interacting and communicating with the audience. Although we have challenged conventions I still had used the simple, common camera and editing techniques that are mostly used in the movies like for example wideshot.
2. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?
My product engages the audience through communication and visuals. The communication is so the audience feels as if they are being directly addressed, meanwhile the visuals just draw the audience in and grab the attention of the audience. My product would be distributed as a real media text by having my commercial appear on YouTube specifically on family channels. My product engages with the audience because I'm giving them exactly what my targeted audience wants. My target audience is Christmas lovers or families. My audience can see a family all together doing holiday festivities; festivities that people from all over the world are probably doing as well.
3. How did your production skills develop throughout this project?
Through this project my production skills have developed. When I say developed, I am talking about how I now obtain a good research background, plan thoroughly, as well as frequently using an outsider's perspective of my work in progress. I spent most of my time in working behind the camera because it was the busiest part. I didn’t know how to do everything in this particular area, so I learned how, but because there is always something to improve. I tried many different arrangements until I got to the final version of the my music video, the one of which I am proud of. I also learned that I always have to start with an idea in mind and to try various different arrangements because I cannot obtain something delightful without seeing the whole picture, from different perspectives. When it comes to time management, I planned my time in such way to finish my music video fast enough in order to have time to triple-check it at the end. As I mentioned before, I spent most of the time behind the camera and I wasn’t expecting to spend so much time retouching and rearranging the elements in page. I finished my music video later but I was still in time.
4. How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?
For my project, I used a lot of different software. In this project I integrated technologies by using my iPhone camera as well as an iPad to record. I used my iPad and iPhone to store all my clips and shots. I used a software called CapCut to edit those clips and shots. When I say editing, I mean the visuals, cutting scenes, music, etc. Online I used many different websites to help me with my project. The two main websites I used were YouTube for my research on all things related to my music video. I used YouTube to help me get an idea of how to start my music video. Doing this helped me feel prepared and know what my product is supposed to look like in the end.
